QUESTION:
Are herbal alternatives safe to use for menopausal symptoms?
ANSWER:
Herbal treatments have been used for menopausal symptoms for hundreds of years.
However, herbal treatments offer little monetary incentive to big pharmaceutical
companies, in contrast to drugs that can be patented and marketed as FDA-approved,
so fewer funds are available for studying how they work, and they’re less promoted
in doctors’ offices and media advertising, too. From our own clinical experience,
we have seen wonderful results in women who use medicinal herbs. Using a menopausal
treatment that is closer to nature can cut down on side effects. And, in fact, more
and more research is being published that supports the use of
herbal treatments for menopause. It’s important to understand, however,
that each woman is unique and should be evaluated based on her personal health history
before any treatment is implemented.
