I’m having trouble losing weight. Could it be a hypothyroid problem?

ANSWER:

The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate our rate of metabolism, so even a small imbalance could result in difficulty managing weight. Hypothyroidism and weight gain are often closely associated. But not always, and many other factors are often involved, too, including your other hormones, how well-nourished you are, the health of your digestive tract, and your detox capabilities. It is also possible that your metabolism has stalled as a result of over-dieting. It’s wise to get your thyroid checked periodically, starting at around age 30, and every five years after that. If there is an imbalance such as subclinical hypothyroidism developing, the sooner you find it, the less likely it will be that you’ll need medication to treat it, and the easier it will be for you to reach your healthiest weight.
